Beginning the Journey
Swimming is the only sport I’ve ever really been any good at – not particularly fast, but strong and consistent. Swimming, whether in the pool or in open water, is as much a mental as a physical challenge. Sixteen years ago I decided I’d like to swim the Cook Strait ‘one day’. Well, ‘one day’ is now set for the summer of 2011. I’m on my way.
In this blog I will record my progress, physical, emotional and psychological.

Esther,
That is a great photo on the blog. Where exactly on the shores of Cook Strait is this picture?
Cheers J
J,
It is a great photo isn’t it. Not actually a photo of New Zealand coastline – it’s a groovy template I downloaded to start the blog. Will add my own images as I go!
Forget the “Summer of Sixty-Nine”.. the new catchphrase is going to be the “Summer of Twenty-Eleven”…
I will watch your progress with interest & offer what little support I can in your endeavour.
Keep on going! keen to be the support crew whenever needed. carry your bananas…
The new banner photo is if Iriki Island in Port Vila Habour, Vanuatu.
Think of me (fondly!) on 7th June, I’ll be swimming effortlessly around the 3.2 km circuit with the 100s of other amazing competitors.
Possibly ‘following’ the 100s of other amazing competitors.
What an awesome goal. Look forward to hearing how you go on the 7th June!
That is so great that you’ve given yourself something so fabulous to strive for. I think I could use a lofty goal to get myself even more excited about swimming. I have a blog I started about what it does for me and I’d love comments http://www.jacquelinet.wordpress.com
